I am getting confused about your first World Series questions. The first World Series, in 1903, was a best-of-nine affair arranged by the winners of the NL and the AL and won by the AL's Boston Pilgrims in a 5-3 upset over the Pittsburgh Pirates. This is from the Baseball Library. You have Boston listed as the Red Stockings, and Pittsburgh isn't listed as the Pirates. I will try and take the test again here shortly...Love my baseball.

There were a set of World's Series between the National League and the American Association in the 19th century. Reference sources such as Total Baseball and Baseball reference.com recognize these. I included a few questions on that era, and also a lot more on the modern World Series (note the different spelling). BTW Pilgrims was not generally used as a nickname by the Boston American League team until circa 1906. Americans was the most common name in 1903.
